2026 Diet Updates
6/8/26
Hi everyone!
Thank you for allowing us to feed your geckos, we’ve enjoyed every minute of being in this hobby, somehow it was way back in 2013 when we first launched our gecko food! We’ve been a little absent at posting lately as we build a new production facility, but as things finally are getting wrapped up on building, we’ve figured it was time to finally give an update!
The first, which you probably already noticed is a new look. There are also a couple small changes to the diet formulas which we’ve been feeding side-by-side to our personal collection for the past 3 years now with great results and feeding response.
Most of the changes are simple language revisions to the ingredients to stay up to date with newer AAFCO guidance, but there are three significant changes we’ve made which are:
- Honey Powder has been swapped out to increase the volume of fruits in the diet, which add more whole nutrients
- Calcium citrate has been changed to Calcium carbonate, allowing for an increase in the addition of palatable ingredients without reducing the calcium content in the diets – calcium carbonate has a higher by weight proportion of calcium than calcium citrate, and while calcium citrate is great when it comes to quick absorption and bioavailability, a constitutively fed diet may not be the best solution for animals that are in a crash and need it fast. We have however formulated this diet to prevent a crash from occurring in healthy, mature egg-laying geckos. That said, we are working to produce a calcium supplement that will fill in better here for geckos that are in a calcium crash.
- Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) will now come added in default, no need to request it! I previously had it as an option people could choose to exclude if they were already supplementing on their own with dusted feeder insects and UVB.
MELONistic has also gotten some additional fruits alongside cantaloupe - blueberry, banana, and watermelon – for a more robust feeding response. We used feedback from folks who were adding in those same fruits fresh when mixing it to offer to their animals; we greatly appreciate the insight, and any chance to make these products better is always exciting and welcome!
Lastly, the prices of each diet have as been same since day one back in 2013! We’ve been proud that we’ve been able to maintain our original pricing for as long as we have, but due to rising costs from our suppliers, we’ve finally had to adjust. To offset increased pricing, we’ll be adjusting our reward program & offering some discounted shipping.
We understand that raising geckos takes patience, effort, and a lot of investment – both time and money. As pricing from the grocery store to the gas station pump has gone up, we wanted to do our best to make it accessible to be a breeder and feed a collection a high-quality diet, something we’ve also had to navigate and struggle to afford in the past. We have a new breeder program that offers discounted bulk bags (5kg, 10kg, 20kg, and larger or custom orders), and you can find the application to access discounted bulk pricing HERE. This hobby wouldn’t exist without the passionate, dedicated individuals who take their time to pass on knowledge and build healthy, robust lineages for the rest of us to enjoy. So, thank you.
Don’t hesitate to reach out should you have any questions, we’re happy to answer them. Thank you for all your patience, building out our new production facility has taken longer than we expected, but we’re finally wrapping up and so excited to start a new chapter with you all!
Best,
Kaiden Waldron-Francis
President
